What is a Great Product?
Deep
A great product is deep. It doesn’t run out of features and functionality after a few weeks or months of use. Its creators have anticipated what you’ll need once you come up to speed, or as your business and industry mature. As your demands get more sophisticated, you discover that you don’t need a different product.
Intelligent
A great product not only makes you feel smart it makes you looks smart when you buy it. It’s not the least common denominator, or the cheapest solution. It’s not necessarily flashy, but deep down inside you know you’ve made the right choice because the product solves your problem. It not only works, it works at a level that equal to or higher than everyone expects.
Complete
A great product is Complete. This is more than deep. A Complete product includes detailed documentation. It includes customer service and support. A Complete product simplifies the complex; it anticipates all the things you need to get up and running: fast. Although a Complete product includes platinum level support, it means you seldom need to rely on it.
Elegant
A great product has an elegant user interface. Things work the way you’d think they would. A great product doesn’t fight you—it enhances you. It means that everyone in the enterprise, can intuitively use the product, and realize the benefit of the product.
Evolution
Your business environment changes, your customers' demands change, can your IT evolve and adapt. Can you react; does it take a week, a month, or a year? A great product means it is easy to change and it becomes a vital tool for gaining competitive advantage.
